About our school

Black Mountain Public School, situated in an idyllic setting, is the focal point of a small community located in the Northern Tablelands area of NSW.

This community is made up of farmers and others who travel to the City of Armidale or town of Guyra to work in a variety of trades. Since its establishment in 1882 the school has prospered according to the fortunes of the rural community, and has alternated between being a one-teacher and two-teacher school.

Although a large number of students come from the surrounding properties, a bigger percentage travel by bus from Guyra. The school has as its central aim the education of students to attain the highest possible educational standard of which they are capable. It is the belief of the school community that this will be achieved by providing quality teaching in an environment not unlike that of the family where trust, care, mutual support and cooperation enhance quality learning.

The Black Mountain badge has the words "Fellowship in Learning", which reflects the belief that students should be educated in an atmosphere where they help one another to achieve their own potential.
